Hello

The fact that you're here searching for a counselor is a good sign. It means you are starting to realize it's okay to ask for help. Even if you don't fully believe this yet, that's okay too. I find it's necessary to meet people where they are if they are ever to get to where they need to be. Toward that end, I am looking to start a collaborative relationship with you to help you uncover or rediscover the parts of you which have been buried underneath self-doubt, insecurity, fear, and hopelessness, products of things often out of our control: the state of the world when you happen to arrive in it; your parents or caregivers who did the best they could with what they had, or who did not seem to try at all; the hurtful words or actions of others; unexpected or traumatic events; the loss of control, of loved ones, of independence, or of strength to keep moving forward. These things threaten to destroy the sense of who you really are, the person that you’ve forgotten or never knew existed. I believe that at your core, you already have some of the answers to your own questions. I also believe that sometimes you need a nudge in the right direction. I want to help you to realize your strengths and resilience, to unlearn destructive self-talk, to accept your limitations, to take action despite uncertainty, and to become a more confident and complete person. Maybe you never learned to ask for help, or perhaps you were never given permission to do so. I am giving you permission right now to ask for help, to be heard & seen, to feel, to struggle and to grow.

My Style

I enjoy working with adults who experience anxiety, depression, and the lingering effects of trauma. I have special interest in men's issues and in helping people with social anxiety. I also like showing people how to be more assertive, how to express themselves and have their needs met while also connecting with others in meaningful and respectful ways. I am person-centered in my approach, so I tend to see the good in people who aren't always able to see it for themselves. While I believe that people can and do change, I also believe that acceptance -- of self, of others, and of circumstance
-- is sometimes just enough. I mostly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic exploration to help increase self-awareness and facilitate change. I am also certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based treatment for trauma and depression, which has also shown to help people manage panic and anxiety, distressing behaviors, and relationship conflict.
